Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson - born Jacqueline Luesby to Chris Watson and Jacqueline Luesby, two British lawyers - was born on August 8, 1989, in Paris. After relocating to Oxfordshire around the age of five, Emma attended The Dragon School. Emma's dream was to become an actor. When she was six, she joined the Oxford Stagecoach Theatre Arts branch and took lessons on singing, acting, as well as dancing. By the age of ten she had performed and taken the lead in various Stagecoach shows and school productions. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000), the movie version of J.K. Rowlings bestselling novel was filmed for the first time at the beginning of 1999. Casting agents discovered Emma via her Oxford theater teacher. David Heyman, the producer of Harry Potter Harry Potter's Sorcerer's Stone and Ron Weasley told Emma after the eight auditions that she'd been picked for these characters. The cast included Daniel Radcliffe Rupert Grint and Rupert Grint. Emma's screen debut took place with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone's release in 2001. The movie beat all previous records in terms of opening day and weekend sales, and it was the top-grossing 2001 film. Film critics praised the film as well as the performance of three leading young actors. The Daily Telegraph, an important British paper, called Emma's performance "amazing". In the following days, Emma was nominated for five awards for her role in the film winning the Young Artist Award for Leading Young Actress in the feature Film.
